HOMEOPATHY

There are many sites on the web that go into the detail of homeopathic medicine and its preparation. Here is a general description of the basic principles of the medicine.

LIKE CURES LIKE

Homeopathy is a system of medicine invented by English doctor Samuel Hahnemann. He noticed that substances that have the same effects on the body as a disease can be used as a cure. This concept is one of the main principles of homeopathy known as 'like cures like'. The particular medicine is tested on healthy people to produce the characteristics of the illness.  Once this is established, the medicine can then be used to cure someone with that particular disease. These medicines can be made of any substance but are usually made of plants, animals and minerals.

    SMALL DOSES

The particular homeopathic medicine is prescribed for use in very small doses. The more diluted the medicine, the stronger the action of the medicine becomes. For example, if a homeopathic is diluted 1000 times, it is stronger than if it is diluted 10 times. Each time a homeopathic is diluted it is hit a number of times against a hard surface such as the palm of a hand. Each time this process of potentisation occurs the medicine becomes stronger for us against and illness.

In orthodox medicine, a doctor will prescribe an increase in the amount of a medicine to have a greater effect on the body. A homeopathic practitioner will use a medicine that is more diluted to have a greater effect on the body.

Homeopathy can be prescribed in two forms, liquid and pillules (small pills). Both of these have the same effectiveness but have different treatment uses.
